this is a thread where people talk about the golden ratio.

It is 1 + √5
          2

The one with the - is also very important though. Its 1/Phi.
Something cool:

Phi^-1 =  .618033989...
Phi^0  = 1.000000000...
Phi^1  = 1.618033989...
Phi^2  = 2.618033989...

I usually just remember the 1.618033989.

Also, Phi is used in the Binet formula for Fibbonacci sequences: F sub n = (Phi^n-phi^n)/√5

The integer powers of Phi get really close to integers as the exponent gets high.


That's all the cool stuff I remember about Phi.
